The Birch Hen is a small craft studio shaped by folklore, quiet places and the gentle magic found in everyday rituals. It grew from a love of slow craft, warm materials and the comfort of making things by hand.
My name is Sarah, and I work with beeswax, copper, terracotta and steel in small batches to create candles, jewellery and ritual pieces. Each piece is influenced by stories, nature and the turning seasons.
The Birch Hen is for people who enjoy earthy textures, warm materials and handmade work with character. These are pieces that feel grounding and alive in the hand, made to bring a little magic into daily life.
Craft over mass‑production.
Everything is made slowly, intentionally, and in limited numbers.
Tactile craft
Everything here is made to be held, used, and enjoyed. Each piece carries the marks of its making, shaped by natural materials and slow, intentional processes.
Natural materials
Beeswax, clay, copper, iron and reclaimed elements.
Inspiration
Scotland’s stories, seasons and landscapes. The folklore, the quiet places, the hearth fire glow. All of these shape the spirit behind each piece.
The Birch Hen began as a way for me to reconnect with slow craft and the grounding rhythm of rural life. What started at the kitchen table has grown into a small creative practice that explores tactile surfaces, traditional techniques and the stories carried by handmade objects.
Each piece holds the history of its making, nothing here is factory perfect and that is exactly the point.
